You are absolutely right.
It has been a HOT minute since I wrote here and posted about my 30-Day Challenges.
Let me explain.
First, I haven’t forgotten about my 30-Day Challenges. Not even a chance of that happening. What happened then?
It comes down to LIFE.
It happens. I took on a tutoring position in my son’s homeschool community. Feel free to look up Classical Conversations if you want to learn more about what we do for school. A position opened for the Challenge A (7th grade) Director/Tutor mid-year The students needed a replacement and as it turns out, I’m already trained to do the job. I stepped in.
I had to make a major adjustment to how I spend my time each week. I no longer have Monday’s open to really focus on writing because I am actually tutoring my class all day. And then I have to take a day or two to lesson plan an study the material. Hello, LATIN!!!! Sadly, my writing has taken a hit and so has my reading. I am finally falling into a routine and picking up my books again.
That leads me to the update for the previous challenge.
In January, I challenged myself to Tackle a Neglected Task. That task was to read a book I promised my husband I would read but I have been severely avoiding for YEARS. HaHa!
I am happy to report that I have been tackling that task, albeit VERY slowly. Like I said above, my reading habits have taken a major hit the last month or so as I have adjusted to the new tutoring schedule. I am not happy about that and I am taking steps to fit more reading in each day. I am going back to what I learned in the LESS SCROLLING, MORE READING challenge and I am picking up the pace again.
I have still not finished that book.
Can you believe that?! But, I am over 80% of the way through now and plan to finish THIS WEEK even if it kills me. Ha!! I have a “stack” of books on my Kindle I am dying to devour.
I am looking forward to the summer when school is on a break. I can much more relaxed on my school planning and I can focus much more on writing and reading.
So, all that to say, I did miss a month in the Year of 30-Day Challenges. I am not joking when I say I literally woke up one night realizing it is almost March and I hadn’t even picked a challenge for February. That is how upside-down my schedule has been the past couple of months. Oh well. Grace, right?
The March Challenge is the SPEAK LIFE CHALLENGE!!!
While I haven’t had much time to read or write this last month or so, I have had plenty of time to think and ponder about the world and my place in it.
It goes without saying that there is so much going on in the news. It doesn’t matter what side of the political spectrum you fall, there is so much yelling and mean things being said. And guess what? It’s wrong. Yelling and screaming and name-calling is wrong and it doesn’t matter who you are.
My heart has been breaking watching this happen all around me.
Sure, I could just turn off the news or stop reading the news or sign off social media. I have done most of that to preserve my mental health. The super sad thing is that I have experienced this name-calling and derogatory speech in real life as well. I’ve seen it happen right in front of me and to me.
I have been pondering how I can rise above all this negative speech and atmosphere. Yes, I have been pondering this a lot.
It’s easy to assume that you are just one person and that you can’t make a difference. I argue that is not true. YOU, and I, can make a difference.
I believe in the power of words.
I believe that words carry a weight that can be used to bless or curse another person.
Remember that little rhyme: “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me.” Yeah, that is a bunch of bullsh$t. (pardon me). Words HURT and they hurt a lot. You can destroy someone’s life with just your words.
On the flipside, you can change someone’s life with your words in a very positive way. Your words of encouragement and affirmation have the power to help turn someone’s life around.
How does this relate to the Year of 30-Day Challenges and the SPEAK LIFE Challenge?
Well, I am taking March to kick start the habit of always speaking life to people. Always.
I believe that you can find something positive to say to someone and by doing so you bring the positive into the light where it can grow. (Note: This only works if you aren’t fabricating positive things to say. Only speak the truth.)
Now, the person I am talking to may not believe what I am saying or may even spew venom back to me. That’s okay. That is their choice. I choose to speak life because I know every person has God-given worth.I may be one person in this huge world but I do strongly believe that I can make a difference with my words. Click To Tweet
My circle may be small but I can encourage those people and then pray they pay it forward by encouraging more people.
Perhaps I am crazy to believe that something as simple as speaking encouragement and affirmations over people can change a climate. I am willing to take the risk of being called crazy. Oh well. I just refuse to join the negativity and hate. Nope. Not going to do it.
How about you? Do you want to join me? Let’s SPEAK LIFE together!!!
Imagine: What would happen if there were people all over the place who took this challenge? It’s kind of exciting, isn’t it?
